Hello Faith Pals,<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

It is Holy Week!\u00a0 Seems strange without a bright Palm Sunday service helping us through this solemn week. Keep praying for the world.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Which reminds me-I received this last week from\u00a0 Rohini Mendis.\u00a0 I know it has been sent out to some of you, but just in case you haven’t seen it, I have included it here:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

APART BUT\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/span>
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 TOGETHER<\/strong><\/span>
\n\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 By<\/strong><\/span>

I heard a little rumour,<\/strong><\/span>
\nI don\u2019t know if it\u2019s true<\/strong><\/span>
\nThat the world is going to be at peace<\/strong><\/span>
\nFor a month or may be two<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The shooters can\u2019t go out to shoot<\/strong><\/span>
\nThe dealers cannot deal<\/strong><\/span>
\nThe bombers cannot throw grenades<\/strong><\/span>
\nSo mother earth can heal<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

I heard that folk must stay at home<\/strong><\/span>
\nAnd spend time with their kin<\/strong><\/span>
\nSlow down relax and take a breath<\/strong><\/span>
\nAnd find some peace within<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

I heard that food and water<\/strong><\/span>
\nIs being shared around<\/strong><\/span>
\nSo everyone has got enough<\/strong><\/span>
\nWorld kindness has been found<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The queens and kings and governments<\/strong><\/span>
\nHave settled for enough<\/strong><\/span>
\nInstead of always wanting more<\/strong><\/span>
\nWhile millions see it rough<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The factories have all closed their doors<\/strong><\/span>
\nAnd so have schools and bars<\/strong><\/span>
\nThe atmosphere is cleaner now<\/strong><\/span>
\nA healthier world is ours<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

And though we may be worried<\/strong><\/span>
\nAbout money, jobs and bills<\/strong><\/span>
\nWe will notice beauty everywhere<\/strong><\/span>
\nBlue skies, fresh lakes, green hills<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The social isolation<\/strong><\/span>
\nIs really not a curse<\/strong><\/span>
\nA blessing in disguise I\u2019d say<\/strong><\/span>
\nTo stop things getting worse<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

And when the month or two is over<\/strong><\/span>
\nAnd we can go back to our lives<\/strong><\/span>
\nPeople can show gratitude<\/strong><\/span>
\nThat their loved ones all survived<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Drugs and bombs and bullets<\/strong><\/span>
\nWill be put away for good<\/strong><\/span>
\nThere will be no hate or bitterness<\/strong><\/span>
\nAll children will have food<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m not sure if it\u2019s a rumour<\/strong><\/span>
\nPerhaps it\u2019s just a dream<\/strong><\/span>
\nBut with all of us together<\/strong><\/span>
\nWe can make it as a team.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

A suggestion from Geoff Serpell.\u00a0 He was tuning in, trying to find the radio station Bill recommended, and:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

‘… stumbled on to FM Southern on 88.30<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0Between 7 and 9 they had a church service from Mordialloc\/ Beaumaris Baptist church with a good message and hymns; called \u201cSongs of Hope\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0They will run a service this Friday between 8 and 9 am too.’<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

During Holy Week, I invite you to think about some of the Easter traditions and customs in your families-maybe whilst growing up, what you kept for your own family, what you have introduced. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0Might be interesting to share? <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

I know that I have never eaten a hot-cross bun before Good Friday.\u00a0 That was so special growing up, and it still is.\u00a0 Even though the shops stock them from Boxing Day onward, Good Friday is the day when I can partake.\u00a0 Over the years I have made them on several occasions, but they weren’t that great!\u00a0 I stick with bought ones.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

When I was teaching, I had a tradition for Palm Sunday.\u00a0 I would hand out those jubed mint leaf lollies (not sure if that would be allowed these days). I think the children remembered the significance of Palm Sunday via lollies.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Two poems from Ann Weem, (from her book Kneeling in Jerusalem<\/em>) for reflection during Holy Week:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Walking Through Friday<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

‘The gift of myrrh<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

went from manger to cross.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Mary and Joseph said<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

thank you to the kings,<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

but Jesus, on the cross,<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

when offered wine with myrrh,<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

said no.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

There are times when we, too,<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

must go heartlong into our pain,<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

knowing it’s the only way<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

we will get to Easter living. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

In last week’s readings in With Love to The World<\/em>, there was a prayer that would be a good companion for Holy week:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

‘Lord God, by the power of your Holy Spirit, plunge me into the passion story that I may find my place there.\u00a0 Amen’<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

I think that is enough material for you for the moment.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
